1499 he creates the Pieta for Saint Peter’s Basilica, Rome
1501-1504 he creates the statue of David in Florence
1508-1512 he paints the ceiling in the Sistine Chapel, Vatican

Died : 1519 – Amboise, France
Michelangelo was a sculptor, artist, painter and goldsmith
1475 he paints the Baptism of Christ and the Annunciation
1495-1498 he paints the Last Supper housed in Milan Italy
1503-1506 he paints the Mona Lisa housed in the Louvre, Paris

Rembrandt

Rembrandt Harmensz van Rijn

Born : 1606 – Leiden
Died : 1669 – Amsterdam
Rembrandt was a painter, draftsman and etcher
Rembrandt produced 60 paintings on biblical themes
In his last years he produces master piece David and Saul
1669 Rembrandt dies in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Died : 1642 – Bologna, Italy
Reni was a painter of primarily religious works
1604-1605 he paints the Crucifixion of Saint Peter
1622-1623 he paints the Baptism of Christ
1636-1637 he paints Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness

Caravaggio was a painter with great influence in Italy
Caravaggio is renowned for his use of chiaroscuro 3-D effects
1606 Caravaggio draws his sword and kills a man over a bet
1610 Caravaggio on his way to Rome dies of pneumonia

Died : 1680 – Rome, Italy
Bernini was a sculptor, painter, architecture and drawing
1627 he paints the Saints Andrew and Thomas
1651 he designs the Fountain of the Four Rivers
1623-1634 he designs Baldacchino di San Pietro

BERNINI’ STORY

Rubens

Peter Paul Rubens                             

Born : 1577 – Siegen, Germany
Died : 1640 – Antwerp, Belgium
Rubens was a successful painter and European diplomat
He was a collector of gems, ancient sculptures and coins
In the 1630s King Philip IV of Spain requested 80 paintings.
Rubens died in 1640 after a long painful battle with gout

Bartolome was a Spanish painter of the Baroque style
He was known for his religious themes and Sevillian street life
1660-1670 he paints John the Baptist in the Wilderness
At the time of his death he had produced over 400 paintings

Raphael was an Italian painter and architect
He was heavily influenced by Da Vinci and Michelangelo
His architecture style defined the early Baroque period
Raphael died in 1520 on his 37th birthday of mysterious causes

Van Dyck was a Dutch painter of the Flemish Baroque style
During the 1610’s he was Peter Paul Rubens main assistant

1628-1630 he paints The Mocking of Christ
